Driveway, Culvert, R.O.W. Permit
Installing a driveway, culvert, or Right of Way access point requires a permit. This permit is only available in by coming in person to the road district office. You will also need this permit before the county will grant you a building permit if you are building a house in unincorporated McHenry County section of Richmond Township. An permit fee of $150 is due prior to the permit issuance. Additionally a Bond of $1000.00 (typical amount) is required and will be refunded after all work is complete and the installation passes inspection. Roadway Work Permit
A permit is required for any work that is done on property under the control of the Richmond Township Road District. This includes in the roadway, the shoulder, or the ditch. For specific information about the easement of a road you can contact the road district office. A roadway Work Application is required and is available from the link below. An application fee of $25 is due at the time of submission. A permit fee of $150 is due prior to the permit issuance. (this can be paid together at time of submission if you prefer)
You can include you payment with your permit application or email your application and mail or drop off payment. Your application will NOT be reviewed until the application fee is received and a permit will NOT be issues until permit and application fees has been paid.
Tree trimming of trees to maintain safe clearance form overhead wires that are already in existence is exempt for obtaining a permit, however tree trimmers are requested to contact the road district prior to preforming work and must have an certified arborist on site.
No ditches, drains, poles, wires, pipe, or other equipment of any public utility company, or other public or private corporation, association, or person can be located, placed, or constructed within, upon, under, or along a roadway without first obtaining written consent of the road district. (605 ILCS 5/9-113).

Special Moving Permit
As of November 1, 2019 the Richmond Township Road District utilizes Ox Cart Permits Systems LLC. for all movement permits. This has streamlined the permitting process and improved our permit user experience. If you do not have an Ox Cart account you can sign up for free at their web site at https://www.oxcartpermits.com.
A special moving permit is required any time a vehicle (typically a truck or semi) would like to drive on a road under the jurisdiction of the Richmond Township Road District over the maximum weight limit for the road or over the maximum length, width or height allowed under the law (625 ILCS 5/15-301). The moving permit is valid for two days from time it was approved. A fee of $25 is charged for each and every permit. The payment is made through the Ox Cart system. Ox Cart also charges a small processing fee separate from the permit fee.
